Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnotherapy?

It is the use of a deeply relaxed state to achieve a therapeutic benefit. You can literally 'change your mind'. This clip will explain how:

What is hypnosis?

It is a state of deep physical relaxation and increased mental awareness. A person under hypnosis is not asleep and can hear and remember everything that happens. Hypnosis can amplify your will power.

Will I lose control?

No. You will at all times be in complete control. You cannot be made to do, say or think anything that you do not want to. A hypnotherapy session is an agreement between you and the therapist to work for pre-agreed ends, a team effort. At any time during a hypnotherapy session you can wake yourself up, just open your eyes.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Hypnosis may not be appropriate for everybody and we would identify at an early stage whether it is suitable for you. If it is suitable for you, then the answer is yes, you can be hypnotised provided that you want to be. You cannot be hypnotised against your will. I will help you to achieve deep relaxation by making suggestions and if you are ready and willing you will find it natural, pleasant and relaxing. It will also be familiar; you fall into a trance every day, neither asleep nor awake. For example; when you are engrossed in a book, watching the TV, relaxing or day-dreaming, it is exactly the same. And you will awake refreshed, relaxed and calm. Ready to get on with your day.

Can I get Hypnotherapy on the NHS?

Not at the moment no.  However when funding is handed over the GPs they will be able to decide if they want to pay for hypnotherapy sessions.  In anticipation of this I am already registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, an organisation set up to vet therapists on behalf of GPs.

What will happen at my first session?

At our initial telephone conversation we will discuss your issue. If I feel that I am not the appropriate person to help you then I will tell you straight away to save your time and money. However if I am not able to treat you I may be able to suggest another therapist or treatment.

I work in a pleasant room in a family environment, 10 minutes from both Worcester city centre and J6 of the M5. Within this calm and serene atmosphere you will sit upright in a comfortable chair while we talk about you, your hopes, expectations, medical history etc. We can discuss any questions¸ worries or concerns that you may have. I will find out what you want from me, what you feel your problem to be and how I can best help you. You will decide on your goal for therapy. When you are happy and confident I will help you to enter a relaxed state and we can begin therapy. This first session may last slightly over an hour.
