Obesity.  Of all the issues that I treat this is the one that causes the most tears……. and the most joy.

The facts

Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide.  It increases the risk of many diseases including;

  • heart disease
  • type 2 diabetes
  • infertility
  • stroke
  • osteoarthritis
  • fatty liver disease
  • various types of cancer
  • asthma
  • depression

It also causes loss of self esteem, embarrassment, feeling self conscious, discomfort, difficulty in moving, excessive sweating, low energy, disturbed sleep, difficulty getting clothes to fit, reluctance to shop and try clothes on, restricted social life and travel…….

Most obesity is caused by excessive food energy intake and a lack of physical activity, or dimply boredom.

Put simply we eat too much and move too little.

So what can we do about it? 

The available evidence shows us that dieting and exercise may work in the short term but it must be maintained and made a permanent part of our lifestyle.  All weight loss has to be a lifestyle change and a life long commitment.  There are no cures, no guarantees.  All require determination and effort.  How much do you really want to lose weight?

I offer two different treatments, supported by advice from a qualified nutritionist.  Both begin by examining your lifestyle, especially your eating, drinking and exercise habits.  Both treatments offer advice on how to make permanent, healthy changes.  It only takes four weeks for old habits to disappear and new healthy ones to form.  If you have an addiction (chocolate perhaps?) we address it.  Both treatments use hypnotherapy to support your new lifestyle choices and address any other issues that may emerge (there are often emotional reasons for over-eating).

In early 2013 I was proud to treat twenty patients at a Midland GPs surgery using this method in a first for the NHS.  Patients lost an average of two and a half stones in twelve months.  The control group lost a average of 2 pounds.

I wrote a paper detailing this study which was presented at a prestigious conference in London in May 2014.

This is a safe, effective and inexpensive alternative to surgery.  I offer a treatment which adheres strictly to a professionally recognised protocol, I have been fully trained and hold insurance to carry out the treatment.  My success rates are good and many of my clients keep in touch occasionally over the months to ensure that the change are permanent (and so that we can share their joy!)

There are five sessions in the treatment each lasting about an hour.  Allow ninety minutes for the first session as a detailed case history is required to allow the treatment to be tailored around you; your ambitions, your needs, your success.

In session one we will assess your suitability and motivation. Then I shall start to prepare your mind, emotions and body for this exciting and life changing procedure, setting goals and beginning your journey to achieving them.  You will be given a folder of information and a CD to listen to every day, you will also keep a food diary.

Session two continues your preparation.  You will by now be eating smaller portions of food and will probably have already lost some weight.  

Session three is the actual gastric band procedure.  The procedure is completely safe and painless but, thanks to the power of the mind, you may feel a little light-headed and uncomfortable.  This will quickly pass as you wake refreshed, relaxed and happy knowing that you have taken control of your weight by taking control of your eating.

Session four is two weeks later and allows any adjustments to be made.

Session five is one month later and keeps you focused, ensuring that you maintain your progress.

I tailor my "conventional" treatment for weight loss around you, the client, because weight is personal.  The first session takes a detailed case history focusing on your lifestyle, your eating, drinking and exercise habits.  We ask what, when and why you eat. 

You find out what you really want, set goals and lay the foundations for achieving them by taking control of your life, deciding a new eating and exercising regime and then enjoying doing it.

The hypnotherapy helps you to achieve your ambitions and deals with any other issues that arise.  You will be eating three small nutritious meals a day with a reasonable amount of exercise (anything from the gym to a daily walk).

How many sessions it takes to achieve is up to you.
